On October 5 schrieb:I spent easily well over an hour on either days playing with the dx and I must say I really can't wait till late november/early december for the release. I had my head turned a bit by the xone 4d but there's something about the dx, despite having plenty of controls it doesn't look or feel cluttered, and with the visual aid of all 4 waveforms scrolling across the lower half of itch's gui, it really wasn't hard to beat match 4 decks without sync and then get involved with fx at the same time.
Seems to be the case that if your not in to controllers you'd pass it off as toy, well it doesn't weigh like a toy. It's a proper solid lump of metal, all the pots and button's have a real solid high quality feel.
Was also nicely surprised with the hot cue buttons, don't let the size put you off, well that's unless your into complicated hot cue juggling routines, but drumming rapid accurate patterns is easily achievable on those little'ish yet very poundable button's.
Shame there's no curve control on the xfader considering u can use it as an analogue mixer and how nice the fader's feel, but this is a midi unit, so it could be remedied with a clever mappings, well thats unless your using itch that is. Don't get me wrong, I was impressed with itch and it's user-abilty, itch is literally software for itch units. Which is how the NS7 can exists, imagine how much it would cost if they had to put the software and a little computer inside NS7 to get the same performance! Think of any dj cd unit without the brains, that's what roughly itch units are, this means much more powerful brains for itch units as the average dj laptop is much more powerful than what they put inside a cdj. And like a cdj ich use HID (which Traktor 1.2 now supports) code hi resolution = much better quality code than midi.
I got the feeling from the xone team that Traktor was certainly in the back of there mind every step in production, 5 pin midi in and out for one, so u can sync traktors midi clock, also like you can plug old midi units that don't have usb in to dx which allows midi code from external unit to route thru. Also via another connection on the rear you can listen to what your chum has cued in there dx when two dx's are connected.
Some may say Itch has taken on Traktor with 4 deck support + fx but they really are two different beasts, itch give's you great high resolution control units where everything has been made to work in harmony. Traktor give's you a chance to go as far outside the box your willing to go but it also give's you a head ache in trying to find the perfect controller to get the most out of its long list of feature's, for me Allen & Heath have made a near perfect Traktor head ache cure. I'm shore NI our rubbing there hands together.
