Style: House/ Deephouse
Summery house music isn't an easy sound to get right. Whilst British powerhouse label Defected has the market for funky house anthems locked
down nice and tight, producers operating in the more left of field electronic music genres have always struggled to get the balance right between their
naturally dark nightclub rhythms, and the light, sunny melodies that beach parties and pool parties need.
Reworck's new release 'Away'
by German newcomers Prompter, hits the sandy nail right on the head.
The cut's rolling bassline and minimal house rhythm keeps the track firmly
away from the usual summer house clichés, whilst a soulful male vocal,
soft keys, and warm, watery pads push it firmly into Ibiza beach bar territory.
Twinkly keys and occasional cute FX give the track a certain summer garden feel,
as if all the insects, birds and bees joined forces for a lazy, midsummer dance party.
It's the kind of fun, open toe cut that would go perfectly with a Mojito
whilst listening to the ever gorgeous sounds of Sa Trinxa bar on Ibiza's Salinas beach.
Prompter are an interesting pair. Comprising of Yury Soldatov and Chris Voss from Munich and Bonn,
the duo have experimented with a wide array of club sounds since their inception in March 2010.
They've dabbled with Detroit techno for 4line Records, chunky deep house for Energie,
Latino-influenced carnival house for PR Underground, and heads down, bleep techno for Dirty Stuff Records.
Of course, such indecision towards a 'sound' makes them the perfect match for Pole Folder's label which has proven itself to be a major fence sitter as well -
it is neither a techno, house, minimal, deep house, or breakbeat label, but rather an imprint for all of the above.
For the remix, the similarly new (but no less talented) Belgian duo Optional
Feast crafted a percussive driven version of 'Away'that injects a little more
swing into the original. The rhythm is looser, the arrangement is loopier, and
overall they bring a slightly drunk feel to the proceedings.
Whilst the first half of the remix snoozes its way through waves of warm sounds and sunkissed grooves,
the cut picks up after its rather wonky breakdown, and becomes more of a minimal techno fist pumper as it continues on its merry way.
With such groove and such funk, it's no wonder Optional's recent Electronical Reeds releases 'Porro' and 'Zahyara' were supported by acclaimed
DJs/producers such as Luciano, Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, Timo Maas, Reboot, Mendo, Yousef, Fabrice Lig, and Tokyo Black Star.
Overall, this is a happy addition to the Reworck back catalog that proves
Pole Folder's label can match the mood of anything that nature throws at the proverbial global dancefloor.
